Swarms this season

Spotted the first swarm as it was leaving the hive. Got to seem them settle on the nearest pine tree. This swarm was from the Top Bar hive, second from the left in the row in the upper field, April 23rd.

On April 29th, we drove to Poland Indiana to pick up bee packages that were brought up from FatBee Man in Ga. I hived one in the empty TB hive in the upper field and one in an 8 frame hive.

The next swarm was on May 6th. This came from the un-painted TB hive in the field.

Just as I was getting everything together to collect the swarm, I got a call from a friend about a swarm at another friend's (Terrel on west end of May Road) house. As soon as I got my swarm hived, I got together another hive box and drove over to get the other swarm. Very easy to hive. It was on a limb in a burn pile

Four swarms plus the over-wintered colony. From left to right: swarm from second TB hive, OW hive, Terrell swarm, unknown swarm from one of the TB hives, brown TB swarm.

These hive stands were made from the shipping crates from a friend's new saw mill.
The next swarm was on May 8th and was from the TB down front. Got there in time to see it leave the hive and settle on a high branch. Was way too tired to try and deal with it at the time, so left it until the next day. It rained overnight and the temperature dropped, so they stayed put. It took 3 tries and several cuts on the trees to finally get them to stay in the hive.
