When I picked up all of the 8 frame equipment, I also got a new colony. It had a medium on the bottom and then two deeps and completely full of honey. The bees were using the top inner cover opening and not the bottom. When I took the hive a part, the screened bottom was a complete mess with old sugar from the candy board and dead bees. Removed the medium full of honey and gave the hive a new bottom. Then the next really warm day, I transferred the whole colony to new boxes, removed more honey and gave them some new frames and put them on a better hive stand. I want to check them again and probably remove more honey frames.
